Festival weekend - schedule of events


6TH – 8TH JUNE 2014

This will be a weekend full of activities at St Peter’s, Dunchurch, incorporating fun, interest and enjoyment – something for everyone. Its purpose is to raise money to go towards the much-needed repair of this beautiful and historic church, but it’s also about having a great time. St Peter’s is grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund for its support in helping us carry out the repairs to the masonry and stone-work.

The timetable of events is as follows:-

Friday 6th June

10.30 am – official opening by the Mayor of Rugby

Followed by and throughout the day:-

  • Tea, coffee and cakes for sale
  • Plants, cuttings and flowers for sale in a gazebo outside the church.
  • Second-hand books for sale.
  • Homemade cakes for sale.
  • Arts and crafts stall, including some beautiful handmade items and paintings.
  • Framed prints of a watercolour of St Peter’s painted in 1905 to keep as a memento.
  • Flower arrangements throughout the church by local groups and professionals. Sylvia Shield (a professional florist) will give a flower arranging demonstration at 11.30 (cost £5 to include refreshments).
  • The history of Dunchurch and St Peter’s in a display of drawings and photos prepared by local historians. Also Jack Waller's collection of old radios with many interesting artefacts.
  • Dunchurch Photographic Society display of original photographs
  • Exhibition to show the work which will be carried out at St Peter’s with scale drawings and pictures. The architect Stephen Oliver will be on hand at certain times over the weekend to explain what needs to be done
  • Meet the vicar. Malcolm will be happy to chat and accept personally any donations or pledges you wish to make.
  • Guided tours of points of interest in the church

7.30pm – Popular Folk Group, ‘Three Men in a Boat’ in concert with Fish & chip supper, soft drinks and pudding included, and wine and beer available to buy. Tickets only £10 from Wanda's or Ann Grindal/ Mary Wells/ Julia Sarson

Saturday 7th June

All of the activities listed above, plus

2.00pm – Teddy bear parachute drop from the Tower. Children are invited to bring their favourite teddies (plus parachute) and watch them glide down to earth. A certificate will be given to every teddy (and their owner). To be launched by Jeremy Wright MP.

2.30pm – tours of the ringing chamber explaining the art of bell ringing with the opportunity to “have a go”. All closely supervised of course!

Children’s activities throughout the day in the common room. All supervised and lots of fun.

The Dunchurch Allotment Association will be manning an apple press with delicious apple juice for sale.

7.30pm – Royal Navy Male Voice Choir Concert with solos from Jayne Dalley-Hewer.

Glass of wine and canapés included. Tickets only £10!

Sunday 8th June

10.30am Songs of Praise service in St Peter’s to be led by John, Bishop of Warwick.

The church will be open all afternoon with the flower exhibits, all the stalls open and tea/coffee and cakes available all afternoon. Everyone welcome.
